Vote puts first bird that makes people homesick

The red-billed leiothrix, or Xiangsi bird, is leading favorite to be chosen as the official bird of Central China's Hunan Province.

About 70 percent of the 30,159 people who voted in an online poll have chosen the red-billed leiothrix, said to make people lovesick and homesick. Xiangsi means "missing each other" in Chinese.

Other popular birds include the swallow, babbler and magpie.

Organized by Hunan Provincial Bureau of Forestry Industry, the campaign aims to raise public awareness about bird protection and the environment.
