Schoolgirls uncover Ribena's vitamin fraud

China Daily | Updated: 2007-03-28 07:05

Two New Zealand schoolgirls humbled one of the world's biggest food and drugs companies after their school science experiment found that ready-to-drink Ribena contained almost no vitamin C.

Students Anna Devathasan and Jenny Suo tested the blackcurrant cordial, recommended to generations of Brits, Aussies and Kiwis for its health-giving properties, against rival brands to test whether cheaper drinks were less healthy.

Instead, their tests found that Ribena contained only a tiny amount of vitamin C, while another brand's orange juice drink contained almost four times more.
