In praise of 'weird' calligraphy

By Yang Yingshi | China Daily | Updated: 2007-03-10 07:58

Holding his breath, an old man draws a big, homemade brush over the cement ground of a park.

The brush is a sponge tied to the end of a stick, occasionally it is dipped in a bucket of water.

He is practicing calligraphy perhaps copying the writing of Master Wang Xizhi (303-361) from memory, or maybe just writing a poem by Chairman Mao.
