News Makers: Domingo to turn The Fly into opera

"What am I working on?" asks Jeff Goldblum's character at the start of 1986 film The Fly. "I'm working on something thatwill change the world and human life as we know it!"

It might not have quite that impact, but 21 years after the film's release, legendary tenor Placido Domingo is set to conduct an opera based on the movie, which sees a scientist get mixed up with a fly.

The opera will be a co-production by the Los Angeles Opera and the Theatre du Chtelet in Paris.
