Strong as an ox, fat as a goose

Zhang Yunxian, 70, loves writing Spring Festival couplets for the local peope.

On a quiet street in Anning Town, in Xichang city, Sichuan Province, an old man with a silvery beard has been busy writing chunlian the couplets that people put up on their front doors as decorations during Spring Festival.

Zhang Yunxian, 70, always writes the same thing: "Oxen and sheep fill up the pen, each and every one is strong; geese and ducks walk in flocks, each and every one is fat."

Most people in Anning are farmers and Zhang's writing with gold powder on red paper has been popular for 30 years. While some customers go for the printed couplets, others opt for his handwriting. Each couplet costs just one yuan ($0.13). Zhang also hands out paintings of the door guardian as gifts.
