Use greener planning

Vowing to face the enormous environmental cost of fast economic growth, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has given a fresh boost to the country's pursuit of energy-saving and environmentally friendly sustainable development.

While outlining its major challenges this year, the nation's top economic planning agency should make better use of industrial policies and pricing mechanisms to encourage greener economic growth.

Yesterday, officials from the NDRC identified an unreasonable industry mix, overcapacity in some sectors, and a possible rebound of investment as key challenges China has to face this year.
