In Volver Cruz plays Raimunda, a young and hard-working wife of an unemployed husband whose roving eye falls upon her teenage daughter.

Holding back the tears at the Madrid ceremony as she gripped her Goya award statue, Cruz thanked director Pedro Almodovar for one of the best experiences of her life.
