UNESCO hope for Mt Fuji

Japan said yesterday it would try to have its famed Mount Fuji and four other sites registered on the UN's World Heritage list.

The five sites, which include the 3,776-meter Mount Fuji and a silk mill, a symbol of Japan's industrialization in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, would be presented to the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization later this week, government officials said.
