Leaping forward

Come on, China, a documentary on China's sports development over the past century, started filming on January 18.

In 1908, an American journalist asked Chinese officials threeReviews: Moviequestions: When will China participate in the Olympics? When will China win medals in the Olympics? And when will China hold the Olympic games?

In 1932, sprinter Liu Changchun became the first Chinese athlete to join the world event, though he failed to gain a medal at the 10th Olympics held in Los Angeles, the United States.

The film will reveal stories behind Liu and other people who contributed to the Chinese Olympian cause, using a montage of rare pictures and old footage, some of which have never been shown before.

The 90-minute film will open in early 2008 before the Beijing Olympics, said Wang Meibiao, chief script writer of the documentary.
