Family planning

I am sure that the problems resulting from large population are not only the concern of the Chinese leadership but also of the whole world.

These problems have a negative impact upon social development and harmony, efficient resource use and the overall competitiveness of the nation. They will also cause social instability.

The family planning policy adopted by the Chinese government is a good one. However, due to the backward mode of agricultural production and a social welfare system for the rural population that is far from perfect, this policy has been implemented with "local characteristics".
