New Year bank card record
China's bank card transactions hit a record 12.31 billion yuan on New Year's Day, up 70 percent from the same day last year, according to statistics from China Union Pay (CUP), the country's only national electronic payment and interbank network operator.
CUP said that there were 20.75 million transactions with its bank cards on January 1, a year-on-year increase of 13.4 percent.
According to CUP, card transactions on January 2 were 5.51 billion yuan, up 49.3 percent from the same period in 2006.
