Celebrities including performers, entrepreneurs and athletes have always been in the spotlight at the annual two sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). Among them was Peng Liyuan, wife of President Xi Jinping and well-known folk song diva.

Peng attended the two sessions from 1992 and 2012 as a CPPCC national committee member, responsible for submitting proposals addressing the country's major issues in the fields of economy, politics and cultural development.

What kinds of major issues has CPPCC member Peng Liyuan highlighted in the past 10 years? Here's a roundup.

* Youth Education

Youth education topped the issues CPPCC member Peng Liyuan cared about. In the past 10 years, she submitted proposals about education for youths in rural areas, youth cyber safety and AIDS orphans' mental health.

Peng especially called for educational support in rural areas. She proposed the government should not only waive rural students' tuitions but also consider providing medical subsidies to their families.

* Chinese Traditional Culture

CPPCC member Peng Liyuan also paid attention to promoting Chinese traditional culture worldwide.

Peng said during an interview in 2002 that she had prepared a proposal, suggesting the government reinforce regulations and management in the cultural market. She said she hoped China's folk music will garner global recognition.
