Shanghai GM to recall Cadillac and Chevrolet cars

(Agencies) Updated: 2014-07-25 12:08

BEIJING -- Shanghai General Motors will recall 19,836 imported Cadillac SRX and 2011-version Chevrolet Camaro vehicles due to defective seats, according to China's top quality watchdog Thursday.

The recall, which will take effect from Aug 31, involves vehicles manufactured from July 1, 2010 to Aug 1, 2011, said the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ).

The administration only gave the total number of Cadillac and Chevrolet cars to be recalled, without specifying the number of each brand.

Problems in production could result in bolts of the seat height adjustment actuators loosening. This may make the seat descend to the lowest position, the AQSIQ said.

This could affect drivers, posing potential safety hazards, it added.

Shanghai General Motors will change the defective parts free of charge.
