The All New SantaFe 3.0 GDI from South Korean automaker Hyundai will be available at dealerships in China in January.

As one of the most successful models in the Hyundai lineup, SantaFe has sold some 2.6 million units around the world since it went on sale in 2000.

The third-generation SantaFe crossover family was introduced at the New York International Auto Show in April, including the five-seat SantaFe Sport and the long-wheelbase seven-seat model simply called SantaFe.

One variant of the five-seat model is equipped with a direct-injection 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 190 horsepower with improved fuel economy and power performance, using just 7.1 liters of fuel per 100 km, while still accelerating from zero to 100 km in 11 seconds.

The SantaFe Sport 2.4L is paired with six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

The imported five-seat 2.4-liter model is already available on the Chinese market.

But Chinese buyers - many of whom prefer larger space - may turn to the seven-seat SantaFe, which is set to increase its passenger legroom by 4.8 cm.

The All New SantaFe 3.0 GDI - the long-wheelbase model -has a more powerful 3.3-liter, 290 horsepower, direct-injection V6 engine.

Hyundai's latest blind spot detection technology is also available on the long-wheelbase SantaFe.

Lighter body

World-class weight efficiency is an essential part of the new SantaFe family.

The SantaFe Sport 2.4L has shed a remarkable 120 kilograms compared to the previous 2012 version.

The company said it is the largest weight reduction between two generations of the same model in its history. The lightweight design has greatly contributed to Hyundai's industry-leading fuel efficiency status.

The All New SantaFe family showcases the brand's cutting-edge capabilities through its unique "Fluidic Sculpture" design, its impressive fuel economy and a host of features to delight drivers and passengers with high expectations for functionality and comfort.

To express the Fluidic Sculpture concept, Hyundai designers have used a three-bar hexagonal front grille, rising beltline, black trimmed optional roof rails and wraparound taillights. These cues are typical on a Hyundai model.

Design elements also include standard chrome grille and door handle, body-color mirrors, rear spoiler, aggressive exhaust outlets, a lower bumper, and wheel arches and door trim in contrasting paints.

The All New SantaFe family also features the same flowing interior look.

Special care and attention have gone into interior details such as an optional panoramic sunroof that allows more natural light into the cabin and premium window switch trim.

A proximity key with push button start is available on 2.4-liter models and standard on the long wheelbase models.
