Trustworthiness of Chinese companies yet to improve

The credibility of Chinese companies has yet to improve. Worldwide research by public relations firm Edelman released on Monday showed only 36% of interviewees trust companies headquartered in China, just a little higher than for companies in India.

Germany, Sweden, Switzerland and Canada rated the top four trusted origins, with 80% of interviewees trusting companies based in Germany.

China, Russia and India came in at some of the lowest ratings, with 36%, 38% and 35%, and showed no improvement in the past five years, the report said.

The report also shows a slight decline in the trustworthiness of UK and US companies. The rating for UK companies in 2014 dropped from 78% to 75%, whereas US companies dropped from 72% to 68%.

Companies headquartered in Brazil, Russia, India and China continue to suffer trust issues. According to the report, two-thirds of developed market respondents would reject any type of domestic investment in a BRIC country.
