A recent forum in Beijing has brought to the fore efforts by China and Russia to strengthen cooperation in cutting-edge plastic surgery and promote medical innovation.

Held on Oct 31, the forum was organized by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) and its Plastic Surgery Hospital. It brought together experts and scholars from China, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan.

Participants discussed how plastic surgery can help meet people's needs for health and aesthetic well-being while contributing to the Healthy China Initiative. Heads of medical institutions and research institutes pledged to continue advancing technological innovation, research and talent development in this field. The forum also witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between hospitals in Beijing and those in China's remote regions to strengthen collaboration in plastic surgery.

International exchange was a major theme of the forum. At the opening ceremony, a special cooperation agreement was signed for the China-Russia Academic Exchange Conference on Plastic Surgery.

"We hope to make this conference a new starting point for working with the Chinese plastic surgery community to improve clinical diagnosis and treatment, as well as research in regenerative medicine. Through these efforts, we aim to benefit more patients in need in both countries and jointly open up new horizons for the development of plastic surgery," said Natalia Manturova, president of the Russian Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (ROPRAS).

Jiang Haiyue, president of the Plastic Surgery Hospital of CAMS, said he hoped the participating representatives would promote innovation through conversation, further advance the development of the industry and enhance the international standing of China's plastic surgery sector.

The two-day conference featured keynote sessions in which medical experts from participating countries presented updates on the development of plastic surgery in their respective countries. It also included seven specialized sessions devoted to face and neck, breast, oral and maxillofacial surgery, nose, body contouring, weight loss and metabolism, and cellular technologies, as well as meetings for postgraduate students and medical trainees.
