China voiced firm opposition on Friday to US sanctions targeting two Chinese companies over their dealings with Cuba, pledging to take all necessary measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese enterprises.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun made the remarks at a regular news briefing in response to a question about US sanctions announced on Thursday against companies Washington accuses of supplying Cuba's military with electronics and security equipment.

China's cooperation with Cuba is open and aboveboard, Guo said, adding that Beijing firmly opposes illegal unilateral sanctions and so-called long-arm jurisdiction that lack a basis in international law and authorization from the UN Security Council.

China firmly opposes US interference in and disruption of China-Cuba cooperation and supports Cuba in safeguarding its sovereignty and opposing external interference, he said.
