Lake Victoria, Africa's largest lake by surface area, has sustained communities in western Kenya for generations. But for people living and working along its shores, HIV remains a major public health challenge.
Over the years, prevention, testing and treatment programs have helped reduce HIV transmission and expand access to care. However, cuts in international funding, particularly from the United States, previously the main donor, have disrupted essential services, constrained community outreach and threatened access to medication, raising concerns that hard-won gains in the fight against HIV could be reversed.
