China and the World Intellectual Property Organization have agreed to enhance their exchanges, research, and cooperation on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence, copyright issues in the digital and online environment, the creative economy and industry, and the protection of traditional folk art. This decision was formalized in a bilateral memorandum of understanding on cooperation, signed Monday in Dunhuang, Gansu province, by China's National Copyright Administration and WIPO.

Under the memorandum, both parties will build on existing training programs to explore a long-term and stable talent development mechanism and promote copyright services for the real economy.

China's National Copyright Administration stated that the memorandum signifies a further deepening of cooperation between the two sides and is of great importance for China in strengthening research on frontier copyright issues, participating in global copyright governance, and expanding its international influence.

Additionally, on Monday, the two sides agreed to carry out project cooperation in Chongqing and Jincheng, Shanxi province, to jointly explore ways and mechanisms for using copyrights and related intellectual property tools to support the protection of folk literature, art, and cultural tourism. They will also leverage their respective strengths and pool domestic and international resources to enhance the integrated development of copyright-enabled folk art and tourism, drive local industry upgrades, and inject new momentum into the innovation of traditional Chinese cultures.
