Advancing energy efficiency through green computing
In 2021, AMD launched its 30x25 goal, aiming to improve the energy efficiency of AI training and high-performance computing nodes 30-fold by 2025, compared with 2020 levels. In June 2025, the company announced that it had exceeded the target, achieving a 38-fold improvement in node-level energy efficiency. This translates into a 97 percent reduction in energy consumption for the same computing performance.
Looking ahead, AMD has set a new rack-level efficiency target for 2030: a 20-fold improvement over 2024 levels. Combined with advances in software and algorithms, overall energy efficiency could improve by up to 100 times.
According to the November 2025 Green500 ranking, AMD-powered systems accounted for 26 of the world's 50 most energy-efficient supercomputers.
