High-resolution satellite images of Taiwan released by the mainland's Jilin-1 commercial satellite network showcase advances in aerospace technology and the potential of remote sensing services to benefit people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, a mainland spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Zhu Fenglian, spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, made the remarks in response to widespread online attention to the recently released images, which offer detailed views of Taiwan's landscapes, including Sun Moon Lake and streets in Taipei. The images capture Taiwan's cities, farmland, salt fields, wetlands, and harbors, allowing people on both sides of the Strait to appreciate the island's natural beauty and prompting lively interactions on social media, Zhu said.
She noted that the images not only demonstrate the mainland's technological progress but also highlight how people across the Strait can benefit from diverse remote sensing services and use technology to protect their shared home. Zhu expressed confidence that people on both sides would have more opportunities to appreciate the country's landscapes through different means in the future.
