China has led the development of over 70 percent of international standards for fireworks, according to the Hunan Fireworks Product Safety and Quality Inspection Center after a recent international standards meeting in Valencia, Spain.

The 15th plenary and working group meeting of the International Organization for Standardization's Technical Committee on Fireworks (ISO/TC 264), held on Oct 18-19, focused on five draft international standards, led by China, that address testing methods for specific chemical substances in fireworks and ignition devices.

Established in 2011, ISO/TC 264 is a specialized technical committee under the ISO that is dedicated to the fireworks industry. The committee's secretariat is hosted by China and managed by the Hunan inspection center.

According to the center, of the 27 ISO standards published by the committee, 19 were led by China, with 17 of those spearheaded by Hunan.

Hunan is a key production hub for fireworks, with its output and exports ranking among the highest in China. The inspection center said that the province has assembled a team of standardization experts in fields such as testing, pyrotechnics, safety engineering, and display operations to participate in drafting, deliberation, and technical responses for international standards.
