Beijing staged a two-day cultural promotion in Cairo, its sister city, on Sunday and Monday, featuring youth dialogues, a speech contest, documentary screenings, cultural salons, and an exhibition of BAIC Group vehicles.
Ashraf Al-Azazy, secretary-general of Egypt's Supreme Council of Culture, said he hoped the two countries would deepen cooperation in cultural heritage preservation, cultural and creative industries, digital transformation, research, and youth talent development.
"Cultural exchange is a key pillar of our bilateral relations," he said, adding that Egypt and China have long shared values such as reverence for knowledge and openness.
Xie Yu, director of the overseas promotion division at the Information Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality, said exchanges between Beijing and Cairo date back to antiquity, and that the two cities have made notable progress in recent years in culture, the arts, and city-to-city cooperation.
Zheng Chengjun, vice-president of Beijing International Studies University, said the university would draw on its foreign-language strengths and the China-Arab Research Center for Culture and Tourism Cooperation to build partnerships with Egyptian universities, think tanks, and government agencies, and to expand youth exchanges.
The events were hosted by the Beijing Information Office, with guidance from the Chinese Embassy in Egypt and Egypt's Supreme Council of Culture. The China-Arab Research Center for Culture and Tourism Cooperation and the Confucius Institute at Cairo University were co-organizers.
