General Zhang Shengmin, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, stated on Tuesday that China is willing to collaborate with Russia to better safeguard the peace and stability of the region and the entire world.

He informed the visiting Russian Defense Minister, Andrei Belousov, that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.

Under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Russia relations have entered a new stage of more fruitful and rapid development, playing a constructive role in safeguarding global strategic stability and improving global governance, Zhang said.

He noted that in recent years, following the upgrading of bilateral relations, the China-Russia military-to-military relationship has yielded significant outcomes in high-level exchanges, joint exercises and training, and other fields.

According to the vice-chairman, China stands ready to work with Russia to thoroughly implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, continuously strengthen strategic communication, deepen mutual trust in the military field, improve cooperation mechanisms, and explore more areas of cooperation that reflect contemporary features. This way, both sides can better safeguard their sovereignty, security, and development interests, while vigorously upholding world and regional peace and stability.

Belousov stated that the current international security situation, especially in the Asia-Pacific region, is complex and volatile. Russia appreciates and supports China's active role in major international and regional affairs. He said Russia is ready to maintain close coordination with China, increase strategic consultations, firmly support each other, expand practical cooperation in military education, sci-tech innovation, and other areas, and achieve more outcomes in the development of bilateral and military-to-military relations.
