Elephant-themed dance celebrates ecological beauty at Yunnan ethnic games

On Saturday, a group of dancers performed an elephant-themed dance in Kunming, Yunnan province, to celebrate the region's ecological beauty.

At the opening ceremony of Yunnan's 13th Traditional Sports Games of Ethnic Minorities, Yuan Zhiping, a principal dancer in the Yunnan Provincial Song and Dance Ensemble, led a captivating performance inspired by the 2020-2021 migration of Asian elephants in Yunnan, showcasing the harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature.

In March 2020, the elephant herd, dubbed China's "wandering elephants", left their habit in Xishuangbanna Dai autonomous prefecture and trekked about 500 kilometers northwards to Kunming, arriving in June 2021. The herd then headed south again and finally returned to their original habitat in Dec 2021.
