AI-powered hybrid rice breeding platform launched in Hunan
It features a Q&A assistant, a breeding resource database, a knowledge graph, and a literature library. Together, these components facilitate information retrieval, data queries, and intelligent decision-making for rice breeders. The platform has already been employed in third-generation hybrid rice breeding.
"As artificial intelligence drives a new wave of technological revolution and industrial transformation, researchers have no choice but to embrace it," said Bai Lianyang, Party secretary of HAAS.
Although still in its early stages, the platform represents a crucial step in integrating AI and big data with rice breeding, Bai said.
Li Jiayang, an academician at CAS, noted that global competition in the seed industry is intensifying, with biotechnology, information technology, and AI rapidly converging. "Whoever achieves a breakthrough in intelligent breeding first will gain the upper hand in the next agricultural revolution," Li said.
