Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning warned on Wednesday that attempts by the Democratic Progressive Party authorities in the Taiwan region to seek "independence" under the pretext of trade and economic cooperation are doomed to fail.
Mao made the remarks at a regular news conference following reports that the DPP authorities plan to participate in an Alaska liquefied natural gas pipeline project in the United States.
She stressed that the Taiwan region's external exchanges must be handled in accordance with the one-China principle.
