The Chinese mainland on Wednesday rejected accusations from Taiwan's Democratic Progressive Party authorities of "transnational suppression" regarding the alleged surveillance of Lai Ching-te's son in the United States, describing them as groundless claims fabricated to provoke cross-Strait tensions for political gain.

According to media reports, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation recently arrested a US woman who allegedly surveilled Lai's son in the US at the direction of the Chinese mainland.

Chen Binhua, spokesman for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said on Wednesday that he had no information about the matter. The DPP authorities described the case as "transnational suppression" and stated they were considering revisions to the so-called "anti-infiltration act" in response.

Chen said the mainland firmly opposes the DPP authorities' collusion with external forces to make groundless accusations and spread falsehoods. He criticized the authorities for using "anti-China" rhetoric to fuel confrontation and provoke cross-Strait tensions for political gain.

"Such sinister schemes and despicable practices cannot deceive Taiwan residents and will only be met with opposition and condemnation," Chen said.
