Inner Mongolia personnel intercept cross-border grassland fire
China's Inner Mongolia autonomous region has intercepted a cross-border grassland fire from Mongolia after days of intense containment efforts, with no flames or smoke visible along the Chinese side of the border, Xinhua News Agency reported on Tuesday.
The fire, which emerged on Friday in Mongolia, spread toward China's border areas in Xiliin Gol League and threatened to extend toward Hinggan League, fueled by strong winds that caused fluctuating and repeated flare-ups.
More than 3,400 professional firefighters and emergency personnel were deployed to defend the borderline. Measures included firefighting and interception operations along the frontier, widening isolation belts and clearing combustible materials.
As of 11 am on Tuesday, only scattered fire lines remained on the Mongolian side in some sections, while no open flames or smoke were visible in the rest of the monitored areas. Artificial rain enhancement operations in key border areas, combined with falling temperatures, have helped stabilize the situation, according to the report.
The fire did not cross the border, and no casualties were reported on the Chinese side, it said.
Next, the region will dynamically adjust its deployment, implement a segmented responsibility system, and tighten control over key areas to prevent the fire from entering Chinese territory.
