Top political adviser urges pooling strength for national rejuvenation

BEIJING -- China's top political adviser Wang Huning has called for efforts to consolidate and develop the patriotic united front and pool wisdom and strength of Chinese people at home and abroad for the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Wang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, made the remarks at a reception held in Beijing on Monday to celebrate the upcoming 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.

Noting that this year also marks the CPC's 105th founding anniversary, Wang hailed the Party's role in uniting and leading the Chinese people through revolution, construction, reform, and into the new era. This path has enabled China to fully advance modernization, achieve high-quality economic and social development, ensure the well-being of its people, and significantly enhance its international influence and appeal.

Wang reiterated the commitment to fully and resolutely implementing the "one country, two systems" principle, as well as efforts to promote the economic and social development in Hong Kong and Macao and support the two regions in better integrating into and contributing to the country's overall development.

Also, Wang pledged efforts to fully implement the Party's overall policy for the new era on resolving the Taiwan question, adhere to the one-China principle and the 1992 Consensus, boost cooperation and exchanges across the Taiwan Strait, resolutely thwart "Taiwan independence" separatist forces and oppose foreign interference.

He also stressed efforts to unite and guide overseas Chinese, returned Chinese nationals and their relatives to play a greater role in promoting the country's development, Chinese culture, national reunification and the exchanges and cooperation between China and the outside world.

About 750 representatives from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and overseas Chinese communities attended the reception.

China's National Day falls on Oct 1.
