The National Cultural Heritage Administration held a meeting on major progress in the "Archaeology China" major project in Beijing on Thursday, releasing the results of three joint archaeological projects between China and foreign countries: the Montu Temple in Egypt, the Ben Arous Forest site in Tunisia, and the Krasnaya Rechka site in Kyrgyzstan.
At the Montu Temple in Egypt, the complete structures from the second to the fifth small Osirian chapels were uncovered, confirming the unique layout of two sacred lakes standing side by side within the temple complex. This provides important clues for studying the rituals and functions of the temple.
Archaeologists from both sides have also carried out excavation, protection, and interpretation in parallel, jointly opening a new chapter in exchanges and mutual learning between the ancient civilizations of China and Egypt.
At the Ben Arous Forest site in Tunisia, remains of architectural complexes dating from the Punic (3rd-1st centuries BC) to Roman (1st-5th centuries) periods were discovered, refining the archaeological chronological framework for the transition from Carthaginian to Roman civilization.
