Shanghai's Qingpu district launches international light festival

The Qingpu session of the third Shanghai International Light Festival kicked off on Monday at Qingpu Bailian Outlets Square, featuring robot performance, diverse light installations and special light shows inspired by traditional Chinese culture.

The launch also marked the official opening of the second phase of Qingpu Bailian Outlet, drawing large crowds of visitors.

In addition to the square, dazzling light shows and installations were held across the Qingpu district, illuminating paddies, ancient streets, shopping malls, homestays, lakes and landmark buildings.

Particularly, the session featured an immersive light show with its storytelling inspired by a poetry collection of the Song Dynasty (960-1279) poet Su Shi. Incorporating the poet's life journey with the district's fascinating night view, the show seamlessly connected the nation's profound traditional culture with the city's modernity.

The third Shanghai International Light Festival, featuring 158 themed events across the city, will run until Oct 16.
