Chinese police leave for Serbia for third joint patrol mission

A Chinese police team left for Serbia on Tuesday to carry out a three-week joint patrol mission with Serbian police, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The team was formed by the ministry at the invitation of Serbia's Ministry of the Interior.

It marks the third time China has sent police officers to Serbia for such joint patrols, as the two countries continue to deepen bilateral law enforcement and security cooperation.

An official with the ministry's Department of International Cooperation said the joint patrol program has developed into a stable and mature mechanism for bilateral law enforcement cooperation.

The Chinese police team will continue to uphold the principles of cooperation, innovation, rule of law and mutual benefit, and assist Serbian police in properly addressing security concerns involving Chinese tourists and overseas Chinese in Serbia, the official said.

The official said the mission will also help present a positive image of Chinese police, further deepen China-Serbia law enforcement and security cooperation, and support the development of bilateral relations.

China and Serbia launched their first joint police patrol in 2019, making Serbia the third European country after Italy and Croatia to conduct such patrols with China. In 2023, China sent a police team to Serbia for a second joint patrol mission.

The cooperation became two-way in 2024, when Serbian police officers traveled to China for the first time to conduct joint patrols in Hainan province. In early September 2026, Serbian police officers completed another joint patrol mission in Hainan's Sanya and Haikou.
