International students tour Yangtze conservation sites in Nanjing

Chek Qin Tan had only ever seen the Yangtze finless porpoise in textbooks. Then, standing on the banks of the Yangtze River in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, the Malaysian student managed to snap a photo as one leaped out of the water. Chek would see it happen again before the day was out.

Chek was one of seven international students from Nanjing University who spent Sept 11 on an immersive tour of the city's Yangtze conservation sites, visiting a riverfront exhibition center, a biodiversity monitoring station, and the country's first urban finless porpoise monitoring station.
