Illegal paragliding flight results in penalties for culprits in Chongqing
Authorities in Chongqing have penalized two men for unauthorized paragliding after reports surfaced of a paraglider spotted over the city's Jialing River Bridge on Monday.
The incident, which quickly gained online attention, occurred on Saturday at around 11:20 am when Yi (surname), 37, and Ma (surname), 23, launched their paraglider from a residential rooftop in the city's Liangjiang New Area. They landed safely on the pedestrian walkway at Xiangguosi Pier, with no injuries or property damage reported.
The Chongqing Public Security Bureau's Liangjiang New Area branch announced that both individuals received administrative penalties for their illegal use of aerial sports equipment.
Police stressed the necessity of adhering to national regulations for low-altitude flying activities, including paragliding, parachuting, wingsuit flying, and drone operation. Proper airspace applications and flight approvals are mandatory, and unauthorized flights over populated areas are strictly forbidden.
Authorities warned that organizing or participating in high-risk aerial activities without approval could result in legal consequences, including potential criminal charges. The public and aviation enthusiasts are urged to comply with these regulations to ensure public safety and order.
