China congratulates Russia on successful parliamentary elections
China congratulates Russia on the successful holding of its State Duma elections and firmly supports the Russian people's independent choice, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Monday.
Guo made the remarks at a regular news briefing when asked about the elections — running from Friday to Sunday — in which preliminary vote counts showed the United Russia party in the lead.
The State Duma elections are an important event in Russia's domestic political agenda, and the results reflect the will of the Russian people, Guo said.
As a friendly neighbor and comprehensive strategic partner of coordination for a new era, China firmly supports the choice independently made by the Russian people, he said.
China is ready to continue working with Russia to fully implement the important understandings reached by the two heads of state, advance bilateral relations to new heights, and achieve further progress, Guo added.
