Youth docent program and immersive exhibits attract young visitors in Ulanhot

Since 2019, the memorial hall has trained over 2,000 "little red docents" during winter and summer vacations. Fang Wei, deputy curator of the monument, said these young docents bring red history to their friends, families, and communities, helping red education extend beyond the memorial hall.

"Some children join the program in third grade and continue through middle school," Fang said. Through their volunteer services, they have grown more confident and promoted the spirit of ethnic unity and solidarity to their classmates, schools, families, and communities.

The monument also uses interactive exhibits to recreate historical scenes and holds themed study activities on holidays and commemorative days, Fang said. It has introduced more than 10 red cultural and creative products and plans to develop reading materials based on study activities.

So far this year, the May First Conference site has received over 200,000 visits, and the memorial hall has welcomed more than 370,000 visitors, with young people making up about 20 percent, according to Fang. From January to September, the memorial hall held 133 social education activities involving 914 volunteers. Activities include red AR immersive experiences, intangible cultural heritage workshops, volunteer docent service, red story quizzes, and folk culture performances, she added.
