In response to the Taiwan authorities' attempt to establish an "office" in Cebu, the Philippines, Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said on Wednesday that the attempt is futile and "doomed to fail".

A "foreign affairs official" from the Taiwan authorities recently confirmed that the authorities are planning to establish an "office" in Cebu in the central Philippines, and expressed hope that it would help create an economic corridor between Taiwan and the Philippines.

In response, Guo said, "We would like to emphasize again that no matter how the Democratic Progressive Party authorities collude with external forces to pursue so-called diplomatic breakthroughs in service of 'Taiwan independence', their attempts are futile and doomed to fail."

"We also urge the Philippines to uphold the one-China principle through concrete actions and refrain from doing anything that would harm China-Philippines relations," he added.
