One dead, one injured after SUV falls from Chengdu overpass
One person was killed and another injured after a vehicle fell from an overpass in Jinniu district of Chengdu, Sichuan province, on Sunday morning, local police said.
The accident occurred at about 7:42 am when an SUV traveling from south to north along the Jinfeng Overpass hit a guardrail and fell onto the road below near the 3.6-kilometer mark. The damaged guardrail fell and struck an electric two-wheeled vehicle in a non-motorized lane below, according to a statement released by the Jinniu branch of the Chengdu Public Security Bureau on the same day.
The SUV driver, a 29-year-old man surnamed Jiang, died after emergency treatment failed, while the two-wheeled vehicle rider, surnamed Wei, sustained minor injuries and is not in a life-threatening condition, the statement said.
Further investigation into the case and follow-up handling are underway, police said.
