PLA Air Force showcases advanced aircraft at Egypt Airshow
Several aircraft from the People's Liberation Army Air Force are on display at the Egypt International Airshow 2026 that opened on Tuesday.
The PLA Air Force said on Friday that at the invitation of the Egyptian military, it has deployed multiple types of its aircraft for static exhibition at the El Alamein International Airport, including the KJ-500 airborne early-warning and control aircraft, YY-20A aerial refueling tanker, J-16 fighter jet and Z-20K helicopter.
This marks the second time for the PLA Air Force to take part in the Egyptian airshow, and the first time these four aircraft models have been publicly showcased at an overseas airshow, according to the PLA Air Force.
Ranging from early warning command, air superiority and strike operations to long-range refueling and battlefield search and rescue, the four models form a comprehensive aerial combat system covering all operational elements, it said.
The J-16 is a twin-seat, heavy multirole fighter. Its primary combat missions are seizing air superiority and conducting strike operations, serving as a core combat aircraft for both offensive and air defense operations of the PLA Air Force.
As a key node of the PLA's air-based network information system, the KJ-500 can carry out tasks including early warning detection, command and control, as well as cross-platform joint strikes. It can operate across all territories, in all weather conditions and under complex electromagnetic environments.
The Z-20K is a medium-sized twin-engine multirole helicopter. Capable of performing diverse missions such as airborne landing and transportation in complex weather conditions both day and night, it boasts full-domain and all-time operational capability.
The YY-20A features long range, high speed, large carrying capacity and strong equipment compatibility. It can significantly enhance the long-range maneuverability and sustained combat capability of forward-deployed forces, acting as a "fighting power multiplier" for the PLA Air Force's long-range operations.
The Egypt International Airshow is one of the largest aviation and defense exhibitions in Africa and the Middle East, covering a variety of activities such as flight demonstrations, static displays and professional forums.
Prior to the airshow, the Chinese and Egyptian air forces just concluded the "Eagles of Civilization 2026" joint training that took place at an Egyptian air base.
