Deep in the Qaidam Basin, Wusute Yadan Geological Park is renowned for its rare Yardang (also known as Yadan) landforms rising from the water. Originally an arid Gobi desert, the region was submerged when flash floods rerouted the Nalenggele River, which originates in the Kunlun Mountains, causing it to change course and flood the area. Today, clusters of Yardang formations rise quietly from the clear waters of Yahu Lake (Duck Lake), creating a striking landscape where the stark Gobi desert meets the shimmering lake.
