One of Lanzhou's most iconic landmarks, Zhongshan Bridge has spanned the Yellow River at the foot of Baita Mountain since the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Known as the "First Bridge over the Yellow River", it was the first permanent bridge built across the river in Lanzhou, with steel components transported from abroad and assembled through the joint efforts of Chinese and foreign engineers and builders. Today, this century-old bridge welcomes pedestrians, offering a unique vantage point to appreciate the Yellow River, Lanzhou's industrial heritage, and the enduring legacy of the ancient Silk Road city.
