Medical students and teachers from Uzbekistan recently attended a 23-day summer school in Lanzhou, Gansu province, wherein they received an immersive look at China's clinical medicine education, medical technology, and traditional culture.

Hosted by the Second Hospital of Lanzhou University, the course brought together seven medical students and three teachers from Uzbekistan from July 20 to Aug 11.

The program combined classroom learning with hands-on clinical training, covering a range of medical specialties. Participants observed clinical procedures, practiced medical skills under the guidance of Chinese doctors, explored cutting-edge technology—including da Vinci surgical robots and 3D navigation-assisted eye surgery—and studied traditional Chinese medicine through lessons on yin-yang, the five elements, and meridians, as well as hands-on acupuncture and cupping practice.

"The healthcare system here really impressed us, especially the way doctors take care of patients and perform different types of operations for different diseases," said Olima Vokhidova, head of the international cooperation department at Bukhara State Medical Institute.

Beyond the hospital, cultural activities took the participants to the banks of the Yellow River, Lanzhou's museums, and the historic Zhongshan Bridge.

According to the hospital, the visit was designed to give the students a broader understanding of how medical research and innovation can advance clinical practice, while also creating opportunities for future exchanges and cooperation between young medical professionals from China and Uzbekistan.

The program was part of the hospital's efforts to expand international medical education and strengthen exchanges between China and Uzbekistan in medical education, clinical practice, and research.
