Green initiatives unveiled on National Ecology Day

Green-development initiatives were launched by 20 Chinese industry associations and the city of Hulunbuir in the Inner Mongolia autonomous region on Saturday, which coincided with the 2026 National Ecology Day and marked the commencement of China's Ecological and Environmental Code.

The initiatives were introduced at the national-level main event for Ecology Day, held in Hulunbuir, a grassland city in northern Inner Mongolia.

In the green and low-carbon action initiative for the 2026 National Ecology Day, 20 associations, including the China Association of Circular Economy and the China Energy Conservation Association, outlined eight commitments. These commitments ranged from policy advocacy to international cooperation.

The associations pledged to assist members in improving energy and carbon management, implementing energy-saving measures across resources such as water, land, and materials, and enhancing technological innovation. They also committed to expediting standard-setting, strengthening institutional capacity, and deepening global exchanges.

Hulunbuir, as the host city, issued its own eight-point initiative. This initiative urged persistent efforts in pursuing green development, accelerating low-carbon industrial upgrades, combating pollution, building beautiful cities and villages, strengthening ecosystem protection, fostering ecological culture, promoting green lifestyles, and collaborating to protect the common home.

The city called on the public to embrace the philosophy that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets, advance the Beautiful China initiative, and strive for modernization that features harmony between humanity and nature.

The main event, co-hosted by the National Development and Reform Commission and the regional government, gathered more than 26 central government departments, research institutes, industry groups, grassroots representatives, and international organizations.
