Da Peng won the Best Director Award for The Lychee Road, a comedy set during the Tang Dynasty (618-907) in which he also plays the protagonist, a low-ranking official forced to accept a seemingly impossible mission. Recalling that his career began with shooting short videos on online platforms, the director said he was excited and surprised by the win.
"I haven't learned directing. I want to thank all the directors I have worked with as an actor – they are the ones who taught me how to be a director," he said.
