Former Xizang legislature vice-chairwoman expelled from CPC, dismissed from public office

Wang Jun, a former vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Xizang autonomous regional people's congress, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China and dismissed from public office following an investigation into serious disciplinary and legal violations, China's top anti-graft authorities said on Thursday.

Wang, 62, a native of Gansu province, began her career in May 1982 and joined the CPC in March 1987. She spent much of her career in Xizang, serving as deputy commissioner of the Ngari prefectural administrative office. She later served as director of the regional department of land and resources and deputy secretary of the CPC Xizang Regional Commission for Discipline Inspection.

Wang became vice-chairwoman of the Standing Committee of the Xizang autonomous regional people's congress in 2018. She was placed under investigation while in office in December 2025.

According to a statement issued by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, Wang adopted a distorted view of political achievements, acted against the CPC Central Committee's requirements on ecological and environmental protection and mineral resource development in Xizang, failed to properly perform her duties, acted recklessly and resisted investigation.

She also accepted banquets that could have affected the impartial performance of her official duties, failed to truthfully explain issues when responding to organizational inquiries, and disclosed confidential work-related information.

The statement said Wang illegally accepted money and gifts, engaged extensively in power-for-money transactions, and allegedly used her positions to seek benefits for others in official appointments and promotions, as well as in mineral resource development and the acquisition of construction land, in exchange for money and valuables.

Her actions constituted serious violations of the Party's political, organizational, integrity and work disciplines, as well as serious duty-related violations. She is also suspected of accepting bribes.

In addition to her expulsion from the Party and dismissal from public office, Wang's qualification as a delegate to the 10th CPC Xizang autonomous regional congress has been terminated. Her illicit gains will be confiscated.

Her case has been transferred to procuratorial authorities for review and prosecution, along with the assets involved.
