China Coast Guard (CCG) said on Tuesday that it had permitted the transfer of an injured member of crew from an illegally grounded Philippine warship in the South China Sea on humanitarian grounds.

Jiang Lue, spokesman for the China Coast Guard, said it had allowed the Philippines to transfer an injured member of crew from Philippine warship No 57, which is illegally grounded at Ren'ai Reef, to Philippine Coast Guard vessel 9702 using a shipborne boat on Tuesday morning.

Jiang said the CCG had monitored the entire operation and added that the CCG will continue to carry out rights-protection and law-enforcement operations in accordance with the law at Ren'ai Reef and in its adjacent waters to safeguard China's territorial sovereignty and maritime rights and interests.
