Taiwan experts explore opportunities for win-win AI cooperation

Taiwan experts have said that artificial intelligence enterprises on the island should work closely with their counterparts on the Chinese mainland to benefit from the enormous market opportunities on offer.

They made the remarks on Saturday, during the Cross-Strait Forum on Artificial Intelligence Integrated Development and Innovation, part of the 2026 World AI Conference in Shanghai. The forum brought together industry leaders, academics and medical professionals from both Taiwan and the mainland to share insights on cutting-edge topics including embodied intelligence, AI in healthcare and enterprise intelligent collaboration, and explore pathways for deeper cross-Strait AI cooperation.

"Taiwan has many AI talents, the Chinese mainland has much more scenarios (for AI industry), so I think it would be a perfect development if we could combine those talents and scenarios," said Mark Yeh, chairman of Digiwin.

Luo Ren-Chyuan, chairman of the Taiwan R&D Managers Association, agreed.

"The Chinese mainland made significant developments in AI industry in the past three or four years, such as the emergence of DeepSeek ," Luo told China Central Television.

"Taiwan, restrained by the scale of talents and market, could learn from the Chinese mainland. Young people should communicate more in this aspect."

In healthcare AI, Tsai Ying-Huang, president of Taiwan's Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, shared clinical implementation experience with a patient-centered philosophy.

"The benefit of AI lies not in shorter examination time, but in higher diagnostic accuracy," he stated.

"In the past, humans adapted to machines. In the future, agents will proactively serve people. Humans make wise decisions, and AI undertakes all intelligent execution tasks," he added.

Participants agreed that both sides have unique strengths in AI R&D, scenario implementation and industrial chain support. According to participants, deepened technological and industrial cooperation will drive mutual empowerment and help both sides seize the opportunities of AI development.
