National emergency medical teams and specialist doctors dispatched to Chongqing
China's National Health Commission has sent emergency medical teams and specialist doctors to support treatment efforts after a landslide occurred in Pengshui Miao and Tujia autonomous county, Southwest China's Chongqing municipality, according to the commission on Saturday.
The landslide happened at around 9 am near a bridge in the county. As of Friday night, eight people had been confirmed dead, while 34 others were reported missing, local authorities said.
The commission immediately mobilized national and Chongqing emergency medical rescue teams and dispatched medical workers and ambulances to the site, the commission said.
Senior health officials were also sent to the area to guide medical treatment efforts.
The commission organized specialists from Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, the National Center for Orthopedics, including experts in trauma care, intensive care and neurosurgery, to work alongside the local medical team.
Chongqing has also sent psychological specialists to provide counseling and support to the injured and their families.
The commission said it will continue to support medical treatment efforts in Chongqing and dispatch additional national-level experts when necessary.
