China reports 79,000 COVID-19 cases in June

China reported 79,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases in June, including 130 severe cases and one related death, according to data released recently by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
The figure marks an increase from about 21,861 cases in May and 23,477 in April. The China CDC said on Wednesday that the overall number of cases is on an upward trend.
All infections detected in June were caused by the Omicron variant, with no evidence of new strains emerging, it said.
